Llanelli's rugby team, the Scarlets, moved from Stradey Park (NPRN 411026) to a new stadium - Park y Scarlets (NPRN 409726) in 2008. Stradey Park was subsequently demolished in 2010 and a new housing estate was built by construction company Taylor Wimpey. The plans for the new housing estate were controversial as it involved building homes on a flood plain. As an acknowledgement to the site's history, streets on the estate have been 'named after some of Llanelli's most legendary players including Phil Bennett, Ray Gravell and Carwyn James.' There is also a small garden in the middle of the site, with a path in the shape of a rugby ball.
