Description

On the pebble beach at the foot of the Aberstrincell Lime Kiln complex (NPRN 40647) is a large iron winch, thought to have fallen to its current position from the cliff above. The winch seems likely to have served the lime kilns, lifting the cargo of limestone and culm (coal) brought in by boat, up to the kilns.

The winch survives in 2 parts, their locations recorded with GNSS and photography during Royal Commission survey in April 2024. The largest most complete part, comprising the drum (1 metre in length), gear, frame and one leg is at SN 51818 68342 with parts of the second leg located nearby at SN 51808 68332
