A billowing line of rampart & ditch defines the eastern side of a generally triangular promontory area, about 88m east-west by 86m, tapering on the north, defined by steep natural scarps on the south & west; the enclosure is set upon ground falling to the south with the most substantial, northern section of the ramparts facing rising ground; the east-facing entrance is set within the central embayment of the ramparts: dry stone walling, visible in the ramparts, is not thought to be original.
