Pontfaen 1, a cross-carved stone, stands in the churchyard to the south of St Brynach's Church, Pontfaen (NPRN 400346). It was first noted in 1861, in use as the east gatepost in the south entrance to the churchyard.

The stone is a roughly rectangular pillar of dolerite. Dimensions are given as 110.5cm height x 30.5cm max. width x 24cm diameter. The stone has gate-hanger holes in its carved face, and is carved on one face only with an outline Latin cross. The cross-head has three concentric circles in low, rounded false relief with a small boss in the centre. The carving is thought to be 9th- to 11th-century in date.
