Ysgol Bro Idris was established in 2017 following the amalgamation of Ysgol Gynradd Dolgellau, Ysgol Brithdir, Ysgol Ieuan Gwynedd (Rhydymain), Ysgol Dinas Mawddwy, Ysgol Llanelltyd, Ysgol Friog, Ysgol Clogau (Bontddu) and Ysgol Ganllwyd. The single storey building that previously housed Ysgol Gynradd Dolgellau's Junior School was constructed in 1915 with the Infant School across the road built later in the twentieth century. Under Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools Programme the building was refurbished and the site is now part of Ysgol Bro Idris 3-16 'all through' school. Improvements to the school costing £2.5m were carried out by contractors, PaveAways. These include creating a suitable space for the Foundation Phase, upgrading the hall, revamping the classrooms, extra storage spaces, modern toilets, new site access, and creating a multi-purpose play area.
