The peat exposure with the larger sections of tree looking northwards

The exposure includes root systems and the lower parts of the tree bole.

The three deposits - silty clay and peat overlain another layer of alluvial deposits (?). The surface of the peat includes many small twigs and branches being abraided by wave action.

Two of the larger sections of tree, possibly insitu, but perhaps more likely to have been dislodged and washed up.

Some of the larger sections of trees that are visible and with differentiation between the peat and alluvial depsosits marked by the changing colours of the soils.

Cross-section of the stratigraphy of the soft cliffs which begin to rise just to the south of the site.

The exposure extends for some 50m with larger dislodged parts of trees washed up to the south near new stabilisation piling.
