Within Pen y Castell defended enclosure (NPRN 303595) are cultivation ridges which can be seen at ground level under condtions of low light. A particularly visible group lies close to the entrance on the east side. They are aligned roughly east-west and measure individually 1m-1.5m across and no more than 0.15m high. Air photos show further areas of cultivation across nearby hillsides (see NPRN 418088).
