The former school was designed by Prichard in 1867. It appears on the first edition 25" OS map, GL XLVII. 6, of 1878. Single storey schoolroom with 5 tall arched window frames and a short two storey wing on one side with two large round brick chimney stacks. The two storey gable is topped with a statue and an arched inscription above the top window which reads - 'Train up the Child in the way he should go'.
