Ysgol Golwg Y Cwm opened in 2012, along with Ysgol y Cribarth in Abercraf and Ysgol Bro Tawe in Ystalyfera as part of a £37m restructuring of education in Powys. The school is built on land reclaimed from the old Ynyscedwyn Colliery (NPRN 33373), photographed during RCAHMW aerial reconnaissance. In 2015 there were 210 pupils on roll, including 18 who attended the nursery class.
