The site of an undated cist cemetery was identified when stone-lined graves were revealed around 1870, underneath the road leading to Caerfarchell and in the south-west corner of an adjoining field referred to as `Cnwc?. An inscribed stone was reportedly recovered from the same location, and may have been reused as a cist slab. The workmen, employed by Mr Mortimor of Trewellwell, were enclosing a piece of common in order to make Cnwc field more symmetrical and placed the stone, face inwards, in the new portion of hedge they built. In 1897 two further graves were reportedly uncovered `which contained much black loam?. The `cnwc? name element is suggestive of a round barrow site, although no trace of a round barrow has been identified.
