DisgrifiadBwlch-y-fadfa is a very small village situated on the B4459 between Synod Inn in the north and Pencader in the south. It is located approximately nine miles west of Lampeter. The most notable building in the village is the Unitarian chapel, built in 1813 and rebuilt 1830, 1850, 1874 & 1905. It is still open today. In the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, Bwlch-y-fadfa was one of thirteen Unitarian chapels in the south Cardiganshire area that were 'resistant to successive waves of evangelical revival emanating from the epicentre of Welsh Calvinistic Methodism, Llangeitho, not far to the north. As such these communities became collectively known to a hostile Methodist historiography as the `Black Spot? (Y Smotyn Du).
