DisgrifiadRhos-y-Garth is a very small village located one and a half miles south along the A485 from the slightly larger village of Llanilar, and about six and a half miles south east of Aberystwyth. It is a scattered community surrounded by farms, many of which appear on both the 1st edition of the 25inch OS maps, published in 1888, and modern editions of the OS maps. These include Llwynhywell, Garth Fawr, Ty Nant and Cwm Clwyd. Although the village of Rhos-y-Garth is very small, there were several places of worship nearby. St. Michael's Church (NPRN 100862) 'was, reportedly, ruinous by 1811. It was rebuilt in 1816. The present church was constructed in 1881-1882, to the designs of Penson and Ritchie. Constructed of slate rubble with dressed quoins, it is also now ruinous.' South of the church is a farm or house that appears on modern and historic OS maps called 'Persondy,' meaning 'Parsonage.' There was a Calvinistic Methodist Sunday School nearer the village centre (NPRN 7400), which had been converted for residential use by 1998. About half a mile north of the village centre was Cilcwm Calvinistic Methodist Sunday School (NPRN 7340) which had also been converted for residential use by 1998.
