The 1st edition of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1885, depicts Norton Mill as a working corn mill. It took its water from the stream flowing into Westfield Pill, via a mill leat 350 metres long which had to be culverted twice when the Great Western Railway's Neyland branch was built in 1852-56. The 2nd edition map (1907) depicts no trace of the mill and the site, close to a low road bridge under the now abandoned railway, is now heavily wooded.
