Toll-bar Cottage, a small early-19th. century cottage standing on a level site to the E. of the Presteigne - Norton road.

The one-and-a-half storeyed stone-built cottage has been moderized with the side walls raised, but the direct-entry plan is still discernible although the central entry has now been made into a window. The house was of a two-unit plan with a hall on the N. that had a large fireplace in a chimney stack that projects out from the gable-end wall; the chimney has a brick capping above a drip-ledge. The ceiling over the room is supported by a narrow chamfered spine-beam but the joists are concealed. The partition seperating the units, seem originally to have beem timber-framed with lath-and-plaster covering. The inner room on the S. has been altered and now contains the main entry and the stair. There is a further doorway from the hall into a modern lean-to on the E. The present low-pitched roof is slate covered.
