Pen-ffordd-goch Pond, formerly Forge or Keeper's Pond, was constructed as a reservoir storing water to power Garnddyrys Forge (NPRN 34134) which was established in 1816-17 and had ceased operation in 1861. The reservoir is also a waterpound for Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal.

The reservoir is bounded on the north-west by a substantial, approximately 300m long, earth & stone damn, reinforced by a modern stone wall. The waters are at most 80m wide and 457m above sea level. At the north-eastern end , there is a modern walled outflow and in the same area a stone-lined tunnel runs back beneath the dam for about 10m with a rusted control valve situated at the blind end.
