The Manganese workings at Egryn operated until 1924 and the ore was transported down to near Egryn Abbey by way of a cableway. This was mainly supported on timber derricks (now long-gone), but a single derrick constructed of sections of railway line survives about half a mile below the site. At NGR SH 61852045 (centre) are the well-preserved remains of the top station of the one and a quarter mile long aerial cableway. This consists of a semi-circle of steel track for the bogies, the fallen derrick that supported it and a deep pit for the weight that tensioned the cable, with the remains of the weight at the bottom.

John Latham, RCAHMW, 2010.
