Pont Aberarth was built in 1849 after the former bridge was destroyed by flood in 1846. It is a broad single-arched bridge in tooled squared dark-grey stone. The arch has prominent raised rusticated rock-faced voussoirs and keystone. There is a raised rock-faced slightly cambered band under the parapet and raised angle piers. There is a 1849 datestone on the south side.

The bridge is one of a small number of high quality bridges, designed by Thomas Penson of Oswestry or his son R.K. Penson, in the parish including Pont Dyffryn by T. Penson 1847, Pont Pennant by R.K. Penson 1850, Pont Rhydsaeson and Pont Glanbran.
