The forge at Pont-y-saeson [Upper Forge] was built sometime before 1675, and in 1694-5 produced over 61 tons of Osmond iron bar. An inventory of 1821 shows that the forge at that time contained storehouses, three cottages, a waterwheel powering hammers, and finery forges with blowing machines. It probably ceased operation around the 1870s. The area contains a substantial masonry dam, water channels emerging from it to probable waterwheel pits, a culvert, and the walls of the forge building. There is good archaeological potential for remains of the forge hearths and hammer bases.
