Tower (Twr Bach)
Circular day-mark tower, built as a landmark for shipping.
The tower is a steep conical rubble tower about 6 m high, with projecting string course and flatter conical cap surmounted by a modern electric lamp. The door gives access to the ground floor. Approximate diameters: at ground level 4.5m; at string course 2.3 m. A small buttress stands diametrically opposite the door on the seaward side. Located at the end of the breakwater at the southeast extremity of Llanddwyn Island.
Probably built late C18, the predecessor to the larger, more visible Twr Mawr (Llanddwyn Lighthouse, nprn 80468) which was erected probably between 1800 and 1823.
Site visited B.A.Malaws, RCAHMW, 14 January 1992.
