Carew bridge consists of a causeway across the ponded tidal Carew River rising to a central humped backed bridge. The present bridge is thought to be eighteenth century and this general form of crossing must have existed from when the river was first ponded (see NPRN 40230). The causeways have been raised and the bridge was rebuilt in 1938.
The bridge has three segmental arches, the centre one higher, with cutwaters rising to refuges between.
