Event and Historical Information:
The MAELOTA was a wooden schooner built by Thomas at Quay Bach in 1864. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 89gt; 74ft 7in length x 20ft 7in breadth x 10ft 3in depth; fastened with iron bolts. At time of loss on 12 December 1883, the vessel was owned by R Phillips and Co of Swansea and registered at Aberystwyth. The schooner had left Dublin and was seeking work when it was caught in a southwesterly force 9 gale. The schooner was wrecked on Clipperau Point with the loss of all five crewmembers.
