NAR ST17SE18

There are slight earthworks of a relict settlement and field system on the southern part of Dinas Powys Common. These are low stony banks defining a number of rectangular enclosures aligned generally north-south. The most prominent feature is a roughly 33m square enclosure containing two rectangular buildings, both about 15m by 10m. Trial excavation recorded a 15m thick drystone enclosure wall lying over a line of post holes. Unstratified second to fourth century Roman pottery was recovered. Third century pottery has been recorded nearby in building trenches.
The southern fringe of the common is much disturbed by limestone diggings.
A possible medieval building platform lies to the west (NPRN 15476).
