Llanychaer 2 was first noted in 1908 when it was being used as a lintel over the fireplace at Cilrhedyn Isaf Farm, Parc-y-fynwent. The findspot's association with the Parc-y-fynwent field name may indicate an early medieval cemetery (NPRN 423399). In 1938 it was lying in the field adjacent to Llanychaer post office. It now stands in the churchyard to the north-west of the church, at the west end of a railed enclosure.

The stone is a shaped, roughly square-section pillar of gabbro. Measurements are given as 152.5cm height x 27cm max. x 30.5cm diameter. It has been incised on five faces all thought to date to the late eighth or ninth century.
