Located at the half-way point of the Darren Inclined Plane ( NPRN 285465) id the ruin of a Winding Drum or Brake Drum house. Measuring approximately 6m x 10m with low stone walls and a central pit, up to 2m below the surface. A narrow set of stairs on the western side of the ruin lead down into the central area. The central pit contained the horizontal wheel around which steel hawsers or chains would have run and the front edge wall of the ruin shows wear marks from the chains.
This structure is built on a platform at the base of the upper and the top of the lower inclines where the inclined planes change direction from southeast-northwest to northeast-southwest.
