Monumental motte and bailey castle, thought to have been erected before 1086 by Roger de Montgomery. From a ditched motte, c.60m in diameter and 13m high, two baileys extend northward, the first, c.60m by 50m, strongly banked and ditched, the second, c.190m by 100m, defined by slight banks and scarps, with traces of a ditch.
