A wooden hutted camp (nprn 31802) was built for employees of the nearby Royal Ordnance Factory (nprns 91719 & 308124) but not used for such. It remained empty until 1943, was used briefly by American troops and subsequently became a prisoner of war camp. Hut 9 has been listed and is preserved on site; it contains wallpaintings of Alpine scenes, maps, and a female figure.
