A constituent building of Dowlais Ironworks (nprn 34084), the blast engine house was built in 1909. It is of large red and yellow brick, two storeys high with a roof parapet, and has nine bays with giant pilasters of red brick. The main entrance is behind a classical cast-iron portico of paired columns.
