The mine workings at Esgair Llu continue from those at Old Esgairlle, which operated before 1850. Workings higher up the hill were judged to be of some antiquity when the present workings were opened between 1842 and 1850. The mine worked intermittently until 1892.
The site has been largely levelled and traces only have been noted.
