Originally the site of Nag's Head Brewery, c.1879, rebuilt and much extended by Frederick W. Soames, c. 1894, who installed new plant and added increased cellarage, to form Soames' Brewery. Enlargement included building of the existing red-brick brew-house and office block, and erection of the red brick brewery chimney, dated 1894 (NPRN 33303). Site enlarged early 20th C. with addition of a single storey building which borders Tuttle Street. Became part of Border Breweries in 1931, when amalgamated with another brewing company, at which point a five storey, three bay building, adjoining the north wing, was built. Brewery closed 1984.
