1. A group of seven ring ditch features, intially recognised from the air & subsequently confirmed by geophysical survey & trial excavation (1992): further excavation, in 1993, concentrated on two examples, which proved to be in the region of 10m overall diameter, their ditches enclosing an area about 6.6-7.0m across; both examples featured a central shallow cutting, thought to have been graves intended to accommodate extended inhumations, originally covered by mounds, or small barrows; the upper fill of the ditch of one example yielded a radio-carbon date, calibrated to 390-40BC: features thought to have been IA in origin, although it is possible that they were constructed as late as the Roman period.
