DisgrifiadEarthwork features identified as a seventeenth century Civil War siege battery, placed against Raglan Castle (nprn 93387), possibly that mentioned in a letter of July 1646. On the ground, poorly defined earthworks, in the region of 35-40m across, set about the summit of a knoll, roughly 130m north-east of the civil war circuit set about Raglan castle; Aerial photos (reproduced as Kenyon 1983, plate XVIII) show this to have been an angular work, having a salient facing the castle; linear earthwork features can be seen to run for about 125m to the north-west and for 90m to the east, presumably forming part of the lines of encirclement.
