Ruined farm on uplands above Barmouth, close to disused manganese mines. Recorded during RCAHMW aerial reconnaissance.
T. Driver, 18th January 2006.

A substantial ruined farmstead with associated field walls and enclosures, located high on the hillside overlooking Barmouth. The tithe map shows three buildings here, although more were subsequently added. The house itself appears to be a direct-entry dwelling with roughcast mortared walls, and gable chimneys. Although seemingly of 19th century date, it appears to incorporate some earlier masonry and displays clear signs of rebuilding. The uphill end had a broad fireplace with a timber lintel, possibly with an oven recess at one side.

On the west side of the yard is a standalone block, assumed to be a bakehouse, although it retains early features suggesting it may have been the original dwelling here, later supplanted by the larger house. It is now very ruined and some of the details have been obscured when it was converted into an animal shelter. The walls are constructed from large drystone blocks and there is a prominent boulder plinth at the downhill end. The lower gable retains two corbels on the exterior face, presumably as supports for a vanished lean-to at this end of the building. This small and simple direct-entry building has a large fireplace in the uphill gable with a timber lintel, and the remains of a stone winding stair in an adjacent recess. One of the rear windows appears to be original, having a deep splay and a rough chamfered timber frame. The upper floor is very ruined, but the downhill gable had kneelers and a small window opening. No floor or roofbeams survive, but a ragged slot in the west wall marks the position of either a central cross-beam, or possibly an upper cruck.
