A two-storey, hip-roofed building built before 1877. It is described on Nobel (1927) as the Saltpetre Grinding and Sieving Stores (No.52 on the Nobel Plan), but Moses calls it the Saltpetre Refinery. Here Saltpetre, one of the key ingredients of gunpowder, was ground down into a powder ready for mixing. The building was served by sidings from the tramway. A flue ran from the refinery, upslope to the north and discharged through a chimney at (SN91210820). The building has been demolished.
