This cutting/embankment lies between Chirk aqueduct (nprn 34406) and Chirk bank bridge (405778). Initially the canal was built into a large embankment from the east up to Chirk bank bridge (see images DS2007-028-001 > 004), then there was large excavation work cutting into the hillside to line the canal up for crossing the aqueduct. A result of which are the large levelled gardens for the canal side cottages (see nprn's: 405782, 406598 and 406599).
