Opencast coal mine begun 2007 by Miller Argent (South Wales) on former industrial land at Ffos-y-fran, Dowlais Top. Coal mine covers some 367 hectares of derelict land. Preceded by excavations of industrial settlements and other structures by Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust.
