DisgrifiadThe Montgomeryshire Canal, a part of the Shropshire Union Canal, branches from the Llangollen Canal (nprn 405725) at Lower Frankton (NGR SJ 3704 3184) from where it runs via Llanymynech, Welshpool and Berriew to a terminal basin at Newtown (nprn 34591) which was reached in 1821. It was legally abandoned in 1944, but there are plans to restore the canal to working order; several sections have been repaired and are in use already.
