This was one of two inclines by which the tramway from the upper workings reached Level 9, which became the main working area of the quarry after 1871. The lower incline falls 34.6 metres on a gradient of 1 in 3.7. The walls of the drum house survive, tilted backwards possibly as a result of subsidence.
