Cofnod Safle

A platform with the footings of a building upon it. The terrace measures 14.5m (NW-SE) by about 4.5m, is cut back to 0.6m deep and is built out to 0.5m high. The building survives as a U-shaped bank around the front end of the platform. It averages 1.2m wide, 0.3m high and measures 6.5m across overall (NE-SW). On the north side of the platform is a levelled area, possibly a yard, and the the platform lip projects northwards for about 8m to form one side of it. Recent coal tip reclamation encroached on this site, damaging the upper end of the platform. At the time of survey the reclamation area boundary fence crossed the platform.
This is one of four rectangular building platforms located on the south-east-facing side of a ridge close to the point where the ground falls away steeply (NPRN 91838) and associated with narrow cultivation ridges.
