Hawarden Bridge Iron Works (nprn 40512, later Shotton Steelworks (nprn 300212)) was established in 1895-6 by John Summers & Sons of Stalybridge. As the works expanded, housing was provided for workers in the form of various terraces and Sealand Garden City, established around 1917, on 12ha of ground provided by the Summers family.
