Rebuilt as a classsic Georgian townhouse c.1820 , Y Meirionnydd is an early eighteenth century building and served as as the town gaol from l7l6 until l813. It is a three-storey property built from rubble masonry with a three window front and a gently pitched quarry slate roof. It also has deep plastered eaves, exposed purlins, bargeboards and stone stacks. There is a later nineteenth century four panel inner door and a large later nineteenth century semicircular open porch on chamfered posts. Also built from rubble masonry, a service wing adjoins at right angles with a modern slate roof. The interior still retains an early eighteenth century staircase. The building has distinctive trusses with lap collars, notched to carry the purlins. The principle rafters are jointed to the first floor beams by a knee-brace. These were sampled by Michael Worthington for dendro dating , February 2010.
