Newport Bridge was built in the early 1900s and spans the Afon Nyfer. Upstream of the bridge are a series of stepping stones, once used to cross the river. A ferry also ran to escort passengers across and at low tide the river was forded by horses and carts. The iron bridge has since undergone refurbishment, and continues to provide an essential crossing point of the Afon Nyfer.
