A trackway and the rectangular outlines of hut bases discernible in modern aerial photographs appear to confirm reports of the former presence of large British military camp in the grounds of Dan-y-Park during World War II . The camp was used by the 177th Field Artillery Group of the US Army during 1943-4 and a field to the west , now partly occupied by the Granada Industrial Estate, was used as a landing strip (SO21991717).
