Dol Hywel was a grange belonging to Talley Abbey (NPRN 92750). A chapel is known to have been attached to it, and ir thought to have been sited in a field on known as Dol Capel or Waun Capel, on Tir Cyd Farm. Tir Cyd is depicted on historic Ordnance Survey mapping, and its site is some 280m north-west of the chapel site. The site now lies beneath the Usk Reservoir (NPRN 413312). In 1913 it was noted that, according to local tradition, the chapel's font was in St Michael's Church, Myddfai (NPRN 301857). The supposed font was, however, considered to more likely have been a domestic utensil.
