Ordnance Survey 1st edition county series mapping of 1876 shows trial levels and old coal levels to the north of Blaengarw farmstead, with a tramway to levels in the north-west. (Glamorgan, sheet XXVI, 7). By the second edition, in 1899, Blaengarw town is established with workers housing, Blaengarw Pit (NPRN: 523216) to the east and International Colliery to the west, with railway, engine shed, buildings and air shaft. It ceased production in the 1960s.
