An apparently deep vertical sided pit of unknown depth marked as "pit" on the OS 25 inch map (2nd ed). From the pit head towards the river to the north is a shallow groove or cutting - this is also shown on the OS map though is less evident today than suggested there. The top of the pit is approximately 15m in diameter. The site is quite stable, though this is difficult to estimate since it is virtually impossible to explore in detail without safety equipment. The top of the pit was securely fenced and there are, or were danger signs in place when visited in 1992. 20m above O.D.
