DisgrifiadMafon Flannel Mill is shown and annotated as 'Old Mill' on the first edition Ordnance Survey 25in map of 1877, along with its triangular millpond to the north. Only a fragment of the north wall of the mill appears on the second edition map of 1900 by which time the pond has been built over. The mill took its water from the Mafon stream via a leat some 140 metres long. From map evidence, it appears that the overflow from the pond supplying the mill discharged into the river on the eastern bank of the river Taff immediately above a weir (nprn 85416) which provided water to the Glamorganshire Canal (nprn 34425) at Abercynon.
