DisgrifiadLlanwnda 1 was found during the restoration of St Gwyndaf's Church (NPRN 308468) in 1881. The restoration included the rebuilding of the nave, and the stone was incorporated into the fabric. It is built into the external east wall of the chancel, south of the east window and 120cm above the ground. The stone is one of eight early medieval cross-carved stones (see NPRNs 422431-422435, 421731 & 92655) associated with the church, suggesting it was an early ecclesiastical site of some significance.
The rough, rectangular, course dolerite stone tapers towards the bottom. Measurements are given as 63cm height x 28cm width. Only one face is visible. It is incised with an outline cross with two horizontal lines near the top of the cross-arm, thought to be 9th to 11th century in date.
