The 1st edition of the historic 25-inch O. S. map, published in 1890, depicts a pandy at this location and accessible only by footpaths. Water was diverted from the Afon Gwyrfai via a 175 metre-long leat passing the north end of the building. A tailrace of equal length returned used water to the river. Later editions of the large-scale maps depict this leat as discontinuous, suggesting that by 1900 the fulling mill was out of use.
