Caeathro is referred to in the 1st edition of the 25inch OS maps (published in 1889) as 'Cae-athraw' but it had reverted to Caeathro by the second edition, published in 1900. The village is situated a mile and a half south east of Caernarfon town centre. The village is somewhat dwarfed by Glan Gwna Holiday Park, a large caravan park on the northern side of the A4085, which runs through the village. Caeathro has a Welsh Calvinistic chapel (NPRN 7022); a petrol station, garage and car hire shop and a public house called the 'Bryn Gwna.' Penrhos country house and garden (NPRN 306631 and NPRN 86439) is situated less than a mile south west of the village centre.
