Ynyslas is a small hamlet located seven miles north of Aberstwyth. It's eastern boundary is marked by the river Leri (crossed by Pont Aber Leri, NPRN 400986). To the north is the Dyfi Estuary, encompassed by the Ynyslas National Nature Resreve (NPRN 402560), and the larger village of Borth is approximately a mile south of Ynyslas. During the Second World War, Ynyslas was home to the MOS EE AA Military camp (NPRN 416301; NPRN 506346). Towards the end of the war, the sand dunes became military firing ranges (NPRN 408392). Ynyslas had its own railway station between 1863 and 1965 (NPRN 41345). Next to the railway station, on the east wharf (NPRN 506501) there was a sawmill (NPRN 506503). The east wharf fell out of use when the sawmill transferred to the West wharf in 1896 (NPRN 506522 and NPRN 34182). The sawmill is no longer in operation and today a boat yard occupies the site where it once stood.
